America’s Drunkest Cities

Forbes recently did a story on the drunkest cities in America. Number One is Milwaukee. Here are some stats:

“more than 70% of adult Milwaukeeans reported that they had had at least one alcoholic drink within the past 30 days–the highest percentage on our list. Twenty-two percent of Milwaukee respondents confessed to binge drinking, or having five or more drinks on one occasion–also the highest on our list. And 7.5% of the population were reported as heavy drinkers–adult men that have more than two drinks per day, or adult women who have more than one drink per day.”

Im disappointed that San Francisco only came in at number 20 but that may be because we have a lot more to do.

Avenue A Sushi - Its not just a great bar!

This is a FABULOUS bar. I have not gone here a lot of times; however, the best time that I had was during a holiday party with a group of friends. If you are a lover of sushi this is the place for you thus, Avenue A Sushi which isAvenue-A-Sushi yes another East Village bar is a great place. They’re known for their fresh tasting sushi. I love their Mango
Rolls and Sweetheart rolls.
You can go just for the sushi but you should also make sure that you check out their drinks as well.
They serve Japanese beers such as Sapprapo and others that I am not really familiar with the names; however, if you give a description of the typical beers you like to drink they can find a complimentary version. But the drinks that did me in were the Sake Bombs. For those that are unfamiliar with this, (and I converted 3 people that night who at first had never had sushi and those who were not fans of Sake Bombs to loving it) a Sake Bomb is when you have a glass of beer and you put chopsticks on the top of the pint glass. You sit a Sake shot on top of the sticks with just enough distance that when
you hit the table, the Sake shot falls into the drink. After the shot drops in, everyone picks up the glass and chugs it down. Ok so it’s not the most delicate looking exercise, but it is a lot of fun and we had quite a few that night. I wish I could remember how much they were but I do know that when you ordered a bottle of the beer, one beer was enough to make 2 - 3 pints which was perfect for the Sake Bomb. I’ll have to go back there and check it out.

Outside of the sushi and the Sake Bomb, the atmosphere is very laid back. You can sit at the bar, sushi bar or at the larger tables and the music is great as well. I recommend this place if you want to bring a mixture of people together that you haven’t seen in awhile, coworkers celebrating an event or just a group of friends. This place can get REALLY loud (we got a few nasty looks that night) so it’s not meant to have a romantic occasion and it’s definitely not a place where you would go to just sit back and reflect; however, it is great for watching others.

Avenue A Sushi is located at 103 Ave A (6th & 7th Sts) East Village, New York 212.982.9109
