America Ferrera and friends enjoying V2 Vodka

We at Pubcrawlin love to see pics of people enjoying their cocktails, and celebrities are welcome here too. It looks like this beauftiful group of ladies are enjoying their Jet Fuel made with V2 Vodka. Pictured are America Ferrera of Ugly Betty, Alexis Bledel from the Gilmore Girls, Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn - all who are working on The Sisterhood of the Travling Pants 2. The picture was taken at Nylon’s launch of its Music/MySpace issue at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza in New York on June 13.
V2 Vodka is a caffeine and taurine infused super-premium vodka which is bottled in Holland. Think of it as the energy drink of vodkas and not untlike the Red Bull/vodka cocktails you’ve seen. The recipe for a V2 Jet Fuel is:

V2 Vodka
Cranberry juice
A splash of ginger

Cucumber Martinis at the Shoreham Lounge

Shoreham Lounge - Bar, originally uploaded by chrisjara.

Throughout the year there area variety of events that take place within the fashion industry. It’s a great excuse to go out with others and make your work week not seem so long.

The other night, a friend of mine ended up going to a variety of great spots in the city. One of my new favorites, is the Lounge in the Shoreham Hotel. This South Beachesque (I love the chic vibes of the hotel with the green and blue elements of the lounge) hotel is a great boutique luxury hotel that’s in the midst of a variety of showrooms, great shopping and more. I enjoy coming here in the summer since you have the ability to sit near the open windows and watch people go by. It’s a great spot to meet up by since people can walk into the open windows and sit down with you.

My favorite drink here is a Cucumber Martini, garnished with
cucumbers, with its cool green color and natural cucumber water. I love that this is a great place to meet clients but it just as nice to go out after work.

In addition to the drinks, their appetizers are great. We had a calamari that was amazing and the tuna tartare was even better on one of many hot days. Although we arrived at the Shoreham earlier in the evening, I
think the area becomes even more vibrant as the sun sets and you can truly see the colors of the lounge.

Noted as one of the sleekest and chic places to stay, it’s a great place to take a breather from your day to day routine.

The Shoreham Lounge is located at 33 West 55th Street, New York, New York, (212) 247-6700.

Sutton Place for all season

I love when it gets warm in the city and after work, any bar becomes a great bar to hang out at. This means that a place that really is amazing is worth being a little packed to enjoy the ambience.

The other night after work, the girls and I were going to go to an outdoor bar and
learned that it had been knocked down (yet their website is still up and running). So after we took it in, we headed to the office’s tertiary home and went to Sutton Place.

I have to say that at first I thought, “ok this bar is kind of dark, has beautiful woodwork but what else?”. On the main level of the bar they had flat screens which show a number of
games and special events. As we went up the steps, there was a second level that made you feel like you were in New Orleans or some French setting (they have French posters all over the walls). Towards the back of this floor there is almost a lounge element with a fireplace which must be nice during the winter and then you hit the rooftop. I was amazed at how many levels this bar had and how each floor had a full bar. This is definitely a great place to go after work. I’m sure a lot
of people from the neighborhood frequent it as do people stopping by for a drink prior to taking the trains home.

I loved that when we first came in, that the music was definitely light and allowed you to talk amongst your group. As the night went on, the music changed to hip hop, pop and other dance beats. Although this is not a dance club, this seems like a great place to go to end or
begin your night. The best part is that their bartenders definitely didn’t water down their drinks and they were really pleasant even when it was packed on the Thursday night we were there.

This is a place that I will consider on the weekends to watch a game (you can call ahead
to reserve what game you would like to see) and yet it has elements that make it cozy if you’re bringing a smaller group. Sutton Place is definitely a bar for all seasons and moods.

Trivia - Its not your father’s drinking game

moody, originally uploaded by elvissa.

I’ve loved useless knowledge since being a kid, fascinated with reading everything I could get my hands on and being able to retain a good part of it. At least for a little while.

So pub trivia for me is the perfect sport. You have friends, beer, fun quizzes and the thrill of competing against other detail fanatics. One neighborhood pub, Blackthorn Tavern, has a great game they run every Monday, hosted by Mark Walshe from Brainstormer.

Brainstormer provides pub quizzes to bars and pubs across the United States and host many games in the Bay Area. Liam McAtasney, who himself was a trivia regular in his youth, founded the company in 1996 and continues to actively host games in San Francisco. They have even developed Quizdates, a singles trivia mixer designed to get people meeting up in a fun environment.

Monday nights at Blackthorn can fill the place to capacity at start time. I and my friends were lucky to get seats recently as most arrived right at 8:30pm. The quizzes consist of multiple general knowledge rounds, a music round where you guess artists/composers via snippets, a picture identifying round and other topics including arts/literature, famous quotes, etc. Answers are announced and written on team cards which are submitted to the host for scoring.

Teams name themselves and come up with some funny monikers, many times involving current events. A recent gem name was “Mark Foley turned over a new page”. Maybe you had to be there. Teams compete for prizes and in our case it was a top prize of bar bucks of various amounts or pints.

Anyway, I look forward to my Mondays now and the new round of questions. And if you haven’t played before, you should really check it out. Solo players can play also (I have) or you can usually find some people at the bar to team up with. The Brainstormer website has a list of trivia venues across the country to get you started.

Cibar Lounge NYC

Cibar NYC, originally uploaded by frans.vanderlee.

I tell you it’s getting chilly here in NY. Nothing is nicer then when fall hits the city. All the pashminas come out but everyone increases their need to head to the next hot spot! For the past year or so I had wanted to go to this little gem of a bar called Cibar Lounge.

Please check out the site, it’s worth it. As you click on the drinks that they make, they have these cute pink flowers that follow along with the ingredients. Anyway, last night I went to Chicago (Side Note: We had front row seats to this show, my boyfriend and I, and I swear that Usher stared at me like three times) and afterwards I insisted that we stop by this bar which sits in the historic area of Gramercy.

I loved it. It was interesting because the decor is pink so you would think that it is a very girly scene; however, after walking into an entrance that is to the side of the Irving Hotel and going through a doorway that makes you think you are going into someone’s brownstone, we saw low tables and cute chairs. Everyone from groups of guys (looking to check out girls) to those that were there with girls that they knew (we saw tons of hookups) were out and about on this fall night. The coolest part is that there is a bamboo garden in back which reminds me of some of the hotel clubs my boyfriend and I went to in South Beach.

The warm glow of candlelight is the lighting of choice in this bar and I LOVED the drinks. I had a Blackberry Cosmo with blackberries as a garnish and I love the different tart effect that it had on this take off of the classic. Although I thought this spot would be a quiet cozy space, the music was loud and you felt that you were in the perfect pre-midnight crowd on a Thursday night! I can only imagine how this bar will be in the winter, since it has that sunken in vibe and you can see the traffic on this mostly residential area, all that is missing to keep you there for hours is a fireplace.

My boyfriend felt that this would not be the bar of choice for a group of guys to go to (although there were a table of guys there when we showed - he suggested that they may have lived in the area or had hopes of not going home solo). I guess it’s a great place if you and your girlfriends are going out a la ‘Sec in the City’ and if you know of a guy and want to get a romantic vibe going, then DRAG him here because you are bound to love it!

Cibar is located at 52 Irving Place (@ the corner of 18th St) New York, NY
